Growing & Glowing (so they say...)

It has been a busy, busy month! School started and we moved into our new home. We are just starting to feel settled, despite the remaining boxes and lack of decorations on the wall. James has built a set of stairs for our side-deck and started a gravel path from the driveway. He is a great husband and daddy-to-be!

Finn's heart rate was again 140 at our last appointment. Everything seems to be going smoothly. He squirms around quite a bit - some days much more than others - I must admit, it is both a wonderful and odd sensation.

A class of third grade students is weekly graphing the circumference of my abdomen. It's been really fun for many reasons, one of which is that many of them were my students when they were in kindergarten. That also happened to be the year James moved to Kodiak, so they were some of the first Kodiakans to meet "Mr." James. As it turns out, my growth is slightly above average! The 3rd grade teacher, my friend Cat, is having a heyday with this - repeatedly asking her students if my rate of growth is below, on, or above average...I continue to tell her in a pleasantly direct voice that my weight gain has been below to normal average and that she can take her graph and tape measure and...Oh, no, wait! I only tell her the first part, I swear!

Our next appointment is in three weeks and then we start going every two. We have started our childbirth classes and are learning so much. It's been a great way for James and I to start talking about our excitement for Finn's birth and, certainly, our fears. We both feel blessed to be in this together, for each other, with the promise of Finn.
