Goodness! I can't believe it has been almost two weeks since the last Odyssey post. Two weeks in the life of Finn is quite a bit! He is now nearly 11 weeks old. He had his two-month-old Well Baby Check on Monday. He was 15.1 pounds, and seems to be gaining about a 1/2 a pound a week. He was 25 inches long and his head was 16.25 inches in circumference. It is safe to say that Finn is no lightweight. He is in the 95th percentile for weight and 98th when weight and height are combined. He got his first round of vaccinations. Dr. Zimmer said that he looked great and was reaching all of his developmental milestones on time. I couldn't believe how great and fast the nurses were. Two of them came in with the voices of sweet angels, cooing and whispering to Finn how sweet he was. Before they gave the shots they said once it was over we could stay in the room and he could nurse as long as needed. They directed us to the examination table with the same sweetness. And then, "Bam!" I had enough time to tell Finn, "Oh, you're such a swee..." and his eyes opened as wide as his mouth in surprise and let out a cry of pain that we haven't heard much. The nurses said, "That's it," and swept out of the room with a smile. Fortunately, he latched right on and started to nurse with no problem. He fell asleep by the time he was dressed and ready to go.
On a few other notes, he is smiling and smiling and every so often throws a giggle in. Also, we have put him to sleep in his crib that's in our bedroom four nights in a row now. He soothed himself to sleep three out of four of those nights. He usually wakes up sometime between 2:00 and 4:00 and we bring him to bed with us at that point. It's been a hard transition for me. Part of me loves having him right there with us all night. At the same time, I know that helping him get used to sleeping in his own bed at 2 months will be a lot easier than at 6 or 8 or more...I am going to try to start putting him in there for his second shift of sleep very soon. Eventually, we'll have to muscle through moving him to a different room but at least he'll be in good shape for sleeping in his own bed. His hair is growing in thicker and has a little strawberry tint to it. Lastly, he is taking turns talking with us, especially James. He loves books and the little doggies that hang from his bouncy seat.
